Paul Dummett declares Newcastle safe after Leicester win

Paul Dummett believes Newcastle United will not be caught in the Premier League’s relegation dogfight after the win against Leicester City.

The 4-2 victory put the Magpies 12 points clear of Fulham and it will now take a miracle for the Cottagers to catch them.

Dummett grabbed an all-important second goal – his first since 2016 – to help put Newcastle on their way to success at the King Power Stadium.

Reflecting on the win and the overall situation, Dummett said: “We stayed solid and hit them on the break quite a lot.

“It is going to be tough for teams to catch us now.

“It is a massive step in the right direction.”

Dummett brushed aside personal praise and believes that Joe Willock’s strike was just as important.

He said: “Joe Willock has energy and always arrives in the box at the right time.

“He has given us a great lift.”
