Prince Philip being treated for an infection and will remain in hospital

Prince Philip is being treated in hospital for an infection and is “comfortable and responding to treatment”, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday last week as a precautionary measure after feeling unwell. He is said to have walked in unaided.

Prince William, confirmed his grandfather is stated is doing “OK” at King Edward VII’s hospital.

At a visit to a Norfolk vaccination centre on Monday, The Duke of Cambridge revealed doctors are “keeping an eye on him”.

Buckingham Palace has now said the duke is being treated for an infection and is not expected to leave hospital for “several days”.

“The Duke of Edinburgh remains at King Edward VII’s Hospital, where he is receiving medical attention for an infection,” a statement reads.

“He is comfortable and responding to treatment but is not expected to leave hospital for several days.”

His eldest son, Prince Charles, made a 200-mile round-trip from his home in Highgrove, Gloucestershire, on Saturday afternoon.

He was the first family visitor for a man, who royal sources claim isn’t a fan of “fuss”.

There was some criticism of the visit given the current Covid-19 restrictions, although the hospital’s website states visits are considered in “exceptional circumstances”.
