This is the brilliant launch video for the Newcastle United’s Supporter Trust’s 1892 Pledge – the ambitious project to buy a part of the club.
Within it, you hear the message from fans and famous faces about what the club means to them, the fan base and the city – and why the chance to own just a small part of the football club would mean so much.
The idea is that supporters pledge a small amount every month – whether that be £5 or £20, every monthly commitment helps. There’s no commitment, the NUST make this clear – support the project when you can.
‘Our voice must be heard,’ is the message from George Caulkin, who alongside MP Ian Mearns, Warren Barton and Ian Humble, is one of the Guardians entrusted with any money raised – and it’s a message the fanbase will undoubtedly back.
The project has been years in the making, with the former chair of the NUST Alex Hurst leading the campaign. With the help of a trusted network and the opinion of hundreds of fans – the pledge can finally be made public.
In a statement via the NUST, Hurst said: “The 1892 Pledge could mean we, as fans, can invest in our club, that could be in the form of a percentage stake in NUFC if it is sold whilst in the Premier League or, if things take a turn for the worse and the club’s fortunes sink further, we would be there standing ready to provide investment and potentially be part of a buying consortium.
“Supporters must have a say in what happens to NUFC and we believe this campaign will give us a real voice in the running of the club – not just now but for years and decades into the future.”
