The often repeated line “Star Chamber Matter” for something given huge importance came into existence because of “The Star Chamber” - an English court of law that sat at the royal Palace of Westminster from the late 15th century until 1641. The court was set up to ensure the fair enforcement of laws against prominent people, those so powerful that ordinary courts would never convict them of their crimes. The room at the royal palace of Westminster, where the court would sit had stars painted on the ceiling, hence the name “Star Chamber.” All mediaeval English Knights were right handed. Left handers were thought to be descended from the devil. Mosquitoes are attracted to humans by the smell of their feet rather than any other part if the body - Yikh! There is enough acid in the normal human system to dissolve an iron nail.

“Spar-ass-idae” (no pun intended!) are a family of spiders known as “huntsman” because of their speed and mode of hunting. They are also called giant crab spiders because of their size and appearance. Sparassidae species occur in most warm temperate to tropical regions of the world, including much of Australasia, Africa, Asia, the Mediterranean Basin, and the Americas. Sparassidae are eight-eyed spiders. The eyes appear in two largely forward-facing rows of four that scare the living daylights out of you especially if you have a favourite dark coloured car! They are able to travel extremely fast, often using a springing jump while running, and walk on walls and even on ceilings. They cling if picked up, making them difficult to shake off. The females fiercely defend their egg sacs and young. They will generally make a threat display if provoked, but if the warning is ignored they may attack and bite. They are however not widely regarded as dangerous to humans. Some male huntsman spiders deliberately make sounds when they detect a pheromone left by a nearby female and then use their legs to transmit vibrations from their bodies to females who will approach if they are interested in mating. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
